Neck Pain
Patient A.K.
I started seeing patient A.K. in July of 2018 for her neck pain. She came to me after being seen in the clinic with traditional physical therapy services that included hot packs, dry needling, stretches, and exercise training. After about eight visits, her neck pain was still prevalent and was seeking something more to help. Patient found me and an Initial Evaluation and History was taken. Many questions were asked regarding how her pain started and it was found in her history she had this same neck pain before. A.K. was in a car crash and suffered the same neck pain she was currently experiencing last year. After her car crash, she had physical therapy and chiropractic care for six months and finally was pain free in January of 2018. Patient was doing fine for about six months before her pain came back in July of 2018, which is when she started with traditional Physical Therapy in the outpatient setting. Patient was worked-up and from a physical standpoint, everything checked out negative with no major movement issues. Physically patient appeared fine, which is why her traditional treatments mentioned above did not work. Further questioning about her car crash revealed her current pain came back on the anniversary month of the car crash from exactly one year ago. At this point it was suspected patient’s pain was due to the memory of the car crash and not necessarily from something physical. Patient was given Pain Neuroscience Education, which explains how pain comes from the brain, and strategies to help calm her nervous system which most likely was overactive due to her history or memory of the car crash and pain she suffered the year prior. In just a few weeks, she was able to calm her nervous system and rid herself of the neck pain.
Low Back Pain
Patient L.S.
“I don’t have enough good things to say about Dr. Avery. The name of his practice is very appropriate. Empowering his patients is exactly what he does.
Before I started working with Dr. Avery, I had suffered from debilitating chronic lower back pain. After trying numerous treatment options, I began to feel powerless and hopeless. He spent a lot of time understanding the problem and refused to stop until he had uncovered the source of the pain. Through careful and methodical techniques, he completely changed the way I thought about my pain, the way I moved through my day and the way I went about recovery.
My current level of pain is greatly diminished and I am able to engage in activities that I have not been able to for a very long time. His goal is always to teach people how to heal themselves.
I highly recommend Dr. Avery. Especially for people who have tried lots of other modalities without results. He is relentless in his pursuit of how to heal people.”
Leg Pain
Patient M.K.
“I was having pain in my lower right leg for about a month. The pain was on the outer side of my calf muscle. It was just aching all the time and it even would wake me up at night. I have been very fortunate to not experience very many injuries in my life, so this was very disturbing to me. I kept wondering what i had done to injure my leg because i could not recall a one time incident.”
“I was very frustrated because I just could not figure out what i had done or even when i had injured it. I really did not want to go to my primary care doctor because felt like I would not get the help I needed to figure this out. The most important thing I appreciate about Dr. Avery is his ability to ask the right questions to figure out what and why I was having this pain in my leg. Dr. Avery is thorough, patient, and understanding. He took the time to listen to me and i never felt like he was trying to rush through our appointment.”
“Solving my problem was quite a mystery, but he made the effort to get to the root of the problem. He determined it was the way I was driving and my car seat was not in the right position. I do not have any more pain in my calf muscle. I would recommend Dr. Avery to anyone who is suffering pain! He has also helped my mom after she fell and he has helped my aunt as well!”
Chronic Shoulder Pain
Patient J.R.
“My shoulder was causing me so much pain that it would wake me up in the middle of the night. I had trouble closing windows, and doing basic life stuff. It was also limiting the amount of time I could train for my swimming. I got massages which were very painful, and would provide some mobility, but I kept having to go back every week. I never got better. Dr. Eric helped me understand the why of my problem and worked on fixing the root of my pain instead of just providing a week long fix. I now have more mobility in my shoulder and no pain.Best Physical Therapist.
After the first visit, I was able to tell my muscles to relax. As my shoulder improves, I’ve been given different exercises to help continue to improve my mobility. I can swim as much as I want. Before I could only swim once or twice a week, and I had to stay in a pool because if my shoulder got tight I had to stop. Now I can swim in the open water which I love. It’s so much nicer to swim outside. But when you swim in open water, you can’t quit in the middle of a workout. You have to get back to the shore. Now I have the confidence that I can swim in the open for a mile or more.”
Chronic Low Back Pain
Patient T.E.
Patient T.E. was suffering with chronic low back pain for about 10 years before he started working with me. Here is more about his experience in his own words:
What was the problem you were having before you discovered Dr. Avery?: Back pain and poor posture
What did the frustration feel like when you were trying to solve the problem before you discovered Dr. Avery?: Very frustrating. Had seen multiple chiropractors and other specialists with little to no results.
What was different about the service provided by Dr. Avery?: It was so simple. No more cracking and manual adjustments of my spine. All we did was identify the areas of discomfort, then with the help of Eric, trained my body to move in a way that relieved that pain. I learned lots of exercises and routines that I can do at home or throughout the day.
Tell us about the moment our service started helping to solve your problem.: When we identified that the rotation of my hips was the source of the problem. Once we started training that area to move correctly, my pain went away.
Tell us what your life looks like now after your problem was solved or is being solved.: Pain is reduced, I am much more active, my performance has increased in the gym, and I am overall much more comfortable in daily activities.
